Shakyamuni Buddha

About

Saga Dawa, the 4th month of the Tibetan Lunar calendar, is the most auspicious month.

Buddha Shakyamuni's birth, enlightenment and paranirvana are all

commemorated in the month of Saga Dawa, which is also known as the

month of merits, meaning that any virtuous activities accumulated

in this auspicious month are multiplied by a hundred thousand times.

This is the most auspicious occasion to engage in meritorious activities of

generosity, compassion, remembering our Lamas and Gurus, remembering

the Buddha and his activities, and a wonderful opportunity to purify our

negative karma.

Saga Dawa Düchen

Saga Dawa Düchen, which is the 15th day of the 4th lunar month, the full moon day, was on May 26, 2021.

Being the most holy day of the year for Tibetan Buddhists worldwide, Düchen means "special occasion" and this year we had a special practice with Khenpo Sonam Nyima Rinpoche.

Online Practice - Heart Sutra accumulation and chanting of "The Treasury of Blessings" - a Practice of Buddha Shakyamuni

Thank you for joining us in the reciting of the Heart Sutra and chanting Mipham Rinpoche's liturgy, "The Treasury of Blessings": a Practice of Buddha Shakyamuni.

The Heart Sutra is regarded as the summation of the wisdom of Buddha. It also contains a mantra that protects the mind. Through this mantra, which is the perfection of wisdom itself, we can overcome the demon of ignorance that possesses us and find unsurpassable happiness.

"The Treasury of Blessings": a Practice of Buddha Shakyamuni, combines visualisation, mantra chanting and meditative absorption. By reflecting upon the form and qualities of Buddha Shakyamuni, and resting the mind in the recitation of the mantra, especially in this holy month, we can pacify destructive emotions, receive Buddha’s blessings, and sow the seeds for enlightenment.

Along with remembering Buddha and his activities, we pray with the motivation that all may be auspicious for the Buddha Dharma to endure and spread in this world, for our Gurus to live long and healthy lives, and for sentient beings to be liberated from suffering into the state of ultimate happiness.
